Rockytop Ranch is located in Wetumka, Oklahoma. It’s 800 acres of hardwoods, fields, rocky ridges and a beautiful lake. They offer hog, whitetail, and turkey hunts at reasonable rates. I love to hit them up on hogs and turkey cause I know they got plenty! It’s not 5 star accommodations and they don’t advertise that but there is a nice “bunk house” with beds, warm water, direct TV and more. The owners Joe and Judy Robison welcome you into their home and treat you like family.

They offer stand, ground blind and stalk hunting on their hogs and over the past 3 years they’ve had around a 95% success rate. You’ll wake up to gobbles and coffee and Joe and his guide James will get you into stand whenever you choose. It’s your vacation so you decide when you want to get in and when you want to be picked up. Enjoy some fishing midday, a seat by the fire or the ever so popular nap. Game cleaning is provided and meat processor recommendations and locations are given upon you harvesting an animal.

I try to make a yearly venture to Rockytop especially when there aren’t any seasons open. I love to hog hunt, it’s a great way to keep the bow and the hunter in tune for the upcoming deer season. If you’re looking to get out of the house for a weekend I’d pack the bow up and head to Rockytop.

More info on Rockytop can be found on their website: www.huntrockytop.com

Bighorn Outfitters is a licensed and insured professional big game outfitting service providing guided hunts owned and operated by Dan Adair, Daniel Nicolds and Don Terhune. They specialize in providing the highest quality guided hunts possible.

Bighorn Outfitters New Mexico Elk hunts take place in the middle of the Gila and Apache Forest. The units they guide are known to have a high population of bulls and the best elk hunting in the state and is recognized as one of the top elk hunting areas in the nation. They conduct the guided hunts on both private and public lands that have been managed for a high population of trophy class animals.

Early September a group of buddies and I all drew into New Mexico and made a trip down to hunt with the guys at Big Horn Outfitters. Let me say, Awesome place, Awesome hunting! The lodge is top notch and the hunting is first class. Bulls everywhere! I will be going back every year they’ll have me. Out of 4 hunters in camp we all tagged out with nice bulls.

Check them out when you can: www.bighornoutfittersllc.com

CCW is a family run business with a warm and casual atmosphere. The owners of CCW help with the guiding, the lodging, and the meals. Their guides will work with you to get on a buck or a gobbler, if you need a stand moved, or if you want to change locations. It’s your hunt and we want you to be happy. When not afield hunter can enjoy the new 5 star lodge that includes a 20’ lighted 3-d archery range for practice. CCW is truly one of the top notch outfitters in the country.

CCW Outfitters strives to manage the deer and turkey in a manner that grows them big and mature. Hunters are taken through a quick educational course in what to shoot and what not to shoot. Body size, antler mass, as well as antler spread/tine length will be considered. It is NOT their goal to focus on the inches of antler as much as it is they would like mature 3.5yr old deer and older to be taken. Hunter will have a chance to take some mngmt. bucks, and will be shown trail cam. pictures of these deer before taken afield. Food plots, mineral licks, and supplemental protein feeders are all part of CCW’s mngmt. strategy. As part of the corn belt, Crittenden Co. KY produces deer from 180” to over 200”, and CCW is blessed to be working with such great genetics. They are an outfitter that is for the serious trophy hunter. There is a 130″ minimum on all bucks and a cash penalty for small bucks taken. All hunts are semi-guided. Hunters are taken to and from stands twice a day.

I personally, have hunted with CCW several times and will continue to go back year after year. I think it is very important to have a good recommendation from someone you trust before settling in with an outfitter. I strongly recommend CCW to the serious bowhunter. You won’t be disappointed. To find out more about CCW check out their website at www.huntccwo.com

Hunts are still available for 2009 and going at great rates. I suggest you give them a call and lock down a date before they are all sold out.

Black Bears are widely distributed throughout New Brunswick however there are some relatively “untapped” regions where the population is higher, this is where Black Bear Lodge hunts, for both spring and fall seasons. They have eleven hunting sectors 10 to 30 miles apart. Each sector has 3 to 5 bait sites with a distance 2 to 3 miles apart as the crow flies. Their baits are hunted using metal 300 lb. ladder stands with a 500 lb. 2 person capacity. Hunters may bring their own climber and they will have a tree ready for climbing at the bait site. Hunters are transported to their stand and picked up by their guide with his vehicle within a short walking distance. Your Guide will remain in the area at rifle shot hearing distance or FRS radio range for rifle or Bow hunters during the hunt. Check out their site for more details.

June 1st of this year I had the opportunity to go hunt Bear with Black Bear lodge. I have long wanted to hunt bear but have always been hesitant because of not knowing what I’m getting myself into, no good references, etc, etc. I took a chance with Gil at Black Bear Lodge. Gil seem to know what he was talking about in regards to bear. He didn’t sugar coat anything and he didn’t promise anything he couldn’t deliver. He spoke highly of his operation and I took a chance.

I wasn’t going alone to New Brunswick. I was heading up there with a couple other guys to film one of our TV shows for Own the Zone TV. From start to finish it was an awesome experience. Gil, the owner knows his stuff. He made sure we were full at breakfast, supper, and dinner. All our bait sites were active and the laughs carried on from the time we met till the time we got drop off back at the airport. I would like to tell you how many bears went down, why one guy was keeping a little stuffed bear in his Hunter Safety System pocket, but I can’t. Tune in each week on Own the Zone TV to find out what really went down in New Brunswick at Black Bear Lodge. And in the meantime if you’re looking to book a bear hunt for 2009 give Gil a call and tell him Paul from Own the Zone TV sent ya.

Tom Ware is an accomplished hunter with a true understanding and appreciation for the Whitetail Deer. But what makes Tom a successful outfitter and guide can also be attributed to his upbringing. His father always told him, “If you’re going to do something, you might as well do it the right way.” He has carried that thought into his outfitting business and is very passionate and detailed about hunting mature whitetails. This is why many customers return to Bucks BeWare year after year.

A couple of seasons ago, I was provided the opportunity to surprise two guys with an all-expense paid trip to Bucks BeWare Outfitters. Meeting Tom and seeing how he ran his business was a hunters dream. Tom had every detail planned out. All a hunter needed to worry about was pulling their bow back during crunch time. There were stands for every wind direction, game photos of the bucks in the area, awesome food and a beautiful log cabin where we could relax and kick our feet up. I was very impressed with the entire experience.

The two lucky guys who were picked by Big Time Outdoors to go on this dream trip were beside themselves. They’d never had the opportunity to experience such a well-run outfit and may never again. They now know why so many people set out for Illinois to harvest trophy bucks.

Thank you Tom for giving us the chance to come hunt and hang out in your camp. I know Tony Vanzant and Joey King had the time of their lives and will remember it forever. I hope to one day come back and hunt myself, but until then, I wish the best to you and your future guests.

Well, my trip to Rocky Top Ranch was unsuccessful. Being that I only got to hunt for one full day makes it tough. I did see my share of deer just didn’t get the big buck in bow range.

The morning hunt was slow. I was positioned on top of a ridge where the owner, Joe Robison, had taken several big buck pics with his trail cam. Only the invisible deer were moving in the area. Joe picked us up at 10:00am and took us back to the lodge for a home cooked lunch.

The evening sit looked to be more promising. My cameraman, Kale Biggs, and I found ourselves in the same tree with hopes of catching Mr. 12-pointer with his guard down. It wasn’t long before two does wondered in. I was just about to tag one when I heard something in the woods coming our way. It was a wide 4-point, not what I wanted. After watching the buck and does feed below me for about an hour Kale catches a glimpse of a good buck trailing a doe about 100 yards down the fence line. I let out several grunts but the buck seemed to have other things on his mind and chased the doe into the timber to never be seen again.

All in all, it was an exciting hunt. Saw a nice buck, good home cooked meals, and a couple that wanted to make sure my stay was pleasant. I made sure to mark a date for next season.

Thanks Joe and Judy Robison.

My Bow hog from Rocky Top Ranch

Recently, Rocky Top Ranch suffered a huge loss when a building on their property caught fire. The building contained treestands, feeders, blinds, 4-wheelers, etc. They are now trying to rebuild what they can and make ends meet. All products that are review pertaining to what they lost, I will donate to them. Wish you the best Rocky Top.
