CCW OUTFITTERS!!

CCW is a family run business with a warm and casual atmosphere. The owners of CCW help with the guiding, the lodging, and the meals. Their guides will work with you to get on a buck or a gobbler, if you need a stand moved, or if you want to change locations. It’s your hunt and we want you to be happy. When not afield hunter can enjoy the new 5 star lodge that includes a 20’ lighted 3-d archery range for practice. CCW is truly one of the top notch outfitters in the country.

CCW Outfitters strives to manage the deer and turkey in a manner that grows them big and mature. Hunters are taken through a quick educational course in what to shoot and what not to shoot. Body size, antler mass, as well as antler spread/tine length will be considered. It is NOT their goal to focus on the inches of antler as much as it is they would like mature 3.5yr old deer and older to be taken. Hunter will have a chance to take some mngmt. bucks, and will be shown trail cam. pictures of these deer before taken afield. Food plots, mineral licks, and supplemental protein feeders are all part of CCW’s mngmt. strategy. As part of the corn belt, Crittenden Co. KY produces deer from 180” to over 200”, and CCW is blessed to be working with such great genetics. They are an outfitter that is for the serious trophy hunter. There is a 130″ minimum on all bucks and a cash penalty for small bucks taken. All hunts are semi-guided. Hunters are taken to and from stands twice a day.

I personally, have hunted with CCW several times and will continue to go back year after year.  I think it is very important to have a good recommendation from someone you trust before settling in with an outfitter.  I strongly recommend CCW to the serious bowhunter.  You won’t be disappointed.  To find out more about CCW check out their website at www.huntccwo.com

Hunts are still available for 2009 and going at great rates.  I suggest you give them a call and lock down a date before they are all sold out.

Stedi-Stock by Agonic

The Stedi-Stock® Camera Shoulder Brace, Shoulder Mount will help eliminate poor quality pictures, due to “camera shake”. The Stedi-Stock® Camcorder Stabilizer, Shoulder Brace, Shoulder Mount will assist in accomplishing smoother videos (especially when filming action or sweeping panoramic shots). The Stedi-Stock® Spotting Scope Shoulder Brace, Shoulder Mount, will assist the user in holding a spotting scope stable without the weight of an unwieldy, bulky, cumbersome tripod.

On target-  I picked up a Stedi-stock brace and was able to take the system on our last hunting trip in Texas. We were going to be doing a lot of stocking Javelina so I wanted to make sure to be real steady.  After receiving the system and putting it to use I found that not only is the brace affordable and lightweight, it also does really good job of stabilizing my camera.  I run a Sony HD cam and I think the brace is recommended for smaller handheld cams but it worked great.  I would definitely recommend this brace to beginners and pros.

Off target-  After several days of using the camera I found a couple modifications I would make to enhance the brace even more and I don’t think they would jeopardize the low cost at all.  One, I would add some sort of padding to the stock of the brace, and second I would add a locking mechanism so I wouldn’t have to keep tightening the camera down.  After a while the camera would loosen and rotate.

Check the braces out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. www.stedi-stock.com

“Bowlegs” by Pole Mountain Outdoors

Universal fit easily attaches to any bow accessory hole or riser cutout.
Holds bow in the horizontal or vertical position.
Fully adjustable rotating legs.
Durable, lightweight aluminum, weighs only 4 oz.
Sound/Vibration dampening leg inserts.

On Target-  The bowlegs are great for ground blind hunting. I’ve hunting ground blinds numerous times and had no real place to set my bow.  I mean you could lean it against the blind but your broadhead always wants to cut the blind or you could let it rest on your lap but that just makes for more movement when game approaches.   The Bowlegs allow the bow to sit upright right in front or to the side and the bow is always ready for action.

Off Target-  Positioning the legs so that they hold your bow up.  There is a perfect spot you have to hit so that your bow doesn’t fall forward of backward.  That spot all depends on how front heavy your bow is.  My bow is not to front heavy because I don’t use a long or heavy stabilizer so the unit works great.

“BLACK DEATH” Deer urines.

“Black Death” is the only true single source deer urine that is meticulously collected, aged, cured and stored 3 years to insure optimum performance. Black Death produces a more pungent odor that is noticeably different than any other scent on the market. Black Death is not pasteurized or cut with alcohol, bandac or glycol… only 100% pure deer urine. No preservatives or additives are ever added.

On Target- The stuff works!  Took it out for the first time this season and had a beautiful non-typical buck come in. He sniffed where I had laid down the Black death for what seemed like forever. Of course it was to dark to shoot so I passed on him. Watch the video. Click here

Off Target-  I love the look of the bottle but I’ve had two lids bust because I’m not smart enough to take the red wax off right for some reason.   I suggest cutting the wax back then unscrewing the lid.

If your interested in testing some BLACK DEATH check out their site at: www.blackdeathproducts.com

The New and improved “FIRENOCK”!

Firenock LLC brings missile arming technology, reliability of modern electronics to the archery industry.  Firenock has successfully develop the “G” switch that is the same technology as 2nd arming switch as modern missile. (i.e. it need to sense a specific acceleration before it can be armed.  This technology eliminates accidental misfire/self arming)  This technology is the heart of Firenock LLC offering of our “G” series lighted nock.  In plan English, you get a lighted nock that lit only when you shoot it out a bow/crossbow with no less than 65G force applied or it will not lit.  Accidental turn on is no longer an issue as you can drop the arrow/bolt horizontally as high as 21′(7M) without being lit.  Couple with the latest Mosfit electronic and assembly methods, mathematically we have achieve previously un think of 99.9999% reliability(1) for a lighted nock.

Firenock “G” series, unlike the previous magnetic activated Firenock’s products, the new Firenock “G” series products do not require a magnet for activation of the lighted nock system. Firenock “G” series just works like magic; the LED gets on when it is shot. There is no need for actuator magnet, actuator adaptor, sticker and accidentally “on” if the lighted nock system is exposed to a magnetic field. And there is no more issue if you lost your actuator in the field or drop it from tree stand. Firenock “G” series is really a high-tech piece of equipment with hunter’s mind designs.

On Target- They function as designed.  “EVERY SHOT”!  Before with other lighted nocks I was always worrying if they were going to turn on and I was pretty darn close to forgetting about even trying lighted nocks again.  After seeing first hand the Firenocks work at last years ATA show and hearing the technology behind them my mind was intrigued once again. “I’ll give them a shot”, and they’ve worked perfectly. The assembly isn’t to tough and I can easily change out the batteries when needed.  Thanks Firenock.

Off Target-  They are a bit pricey for a little spender like me. ($54.95 for a pack of 3) But this is one product where I can say, you get what you pay for.

Check them out when you get a chance. www.firenock.com

“TROPHY ROCK”

Trophy Rock is the single most powerful natural mineral lick. Extracted from a pristine mineral deposit in central Utah, Trophy Rock descends from an ancient sea bed over 150 million years old, preserved by an embalming layer of volcanic ash.

Outdoor enthusiasts use Trophy Rock to observe, hunt, and harvest quality big game and wildlife. Whether it’s whitetail deer, elk, caribou, antelope, boars, or even black bears. Whether using a bow, a rifle, a muzzle loader, binoculars, or just taking pictures. Trophy Rock is the best supplement available. It’s natural. It’s effective. And it’s beneficial.

On Target – First off, check your states regs and make sure you can use Trophy Rock. Once you know you can use it then you will reap the benefits. This rock is all natural, it can last up to several months, and it works. I figured I’d give it a try and hoped in a couple weeks I’d have some game pics of some bucks using it. It didn’t take but a week and I have several bucks and does frequently using it. It’s easy to use and it’s packed with minerals deer need to be healthy.

Off Target – This is my first year to use Trophy Rock and as of today I have not found one thing I don’t like. I have cameras set up on all my rock stations and all are getting pictures of deer. Let me get a full season under and I’ll let you know if I find a flaw.

I never thought I’d be buying rocks for deer hunting. Over the years I’ve tried numerous attractants, supplements, etc and not one has performed like this. If you’d like more info on the Trophy Rock check out www.trophyrock.com

BUCK COMMANDER DVD

Buck Commander takes you on a ride unlike anything you have ever experienced! From big bucks to Duckmen turned deer hunters, this video has it all. Join Willie Robertson and the Buckmen as they pursue their passion for hunting in a way that has never before been captured. This truly is a DVD for any huntin nuts library. I’m a big fan of showing things how they REALLY happen as you’ve probably noticed in some of my production work. This DVD does just that. The Buck Commander crew shows you the true meaning of having a good time. There’s no stiffs in this video.

On target - First off, I’d like to say great job to the production staff. This DVD was nicely put together, very professional. Secondly, I’d like to add that the Buck Commander crew members were very entertaining. I felt like I was actually getting to know the guys and I really like the fact that they were being themselves. Although, this DVD was packed with kills which is what most hunters want I found myself really enjoying the footage in between. Can’t wait to see what they do next.

Off target - Heck, this is tough. I am going to have to go with something that is merely an opinion. I am a bow hunter and I would of like to see more bow action but I can safely say that even this rowdy crew makes rifle hunting a blast to watch.

If your burnt out on watching hunting DVD’s and in the mood for a something outside of the ordinary then I command you to grab the new DVD from Buck Commander. I’m looking forward to season 2. www.buckcommander.com

Black Bear Lodge in New Brunswick, Canada

Black Bears are widely distributed throughout New Brunswick however there are some relatively “untapped” regions where the population is higher, this is where Black Bear Lodge hunts, for both spring and fall seasons. They have eleven hunting sectors 10 to 30 miles apart. Each sector has 3 to 5 bait sites with a distance 2 to 3 miles apart as the crow flies. Their baits are hunted using metal 300 lb. ladder stands with a 500 lb. 2 person capacity. Hunters may bring their own climber and they will have a tree ready for climbing at the bait site. Hunters are transported to their stand and picked up by their guide with his vehicle within a short walking distance. Your Guide will remain in the area at rifle shot hearing distance or FRS radio range for rifle or Bow hunters during the hunt. Check out their site for more details.

June 1st of this year I had the opportunity to go hunt Bear with Black Bear lodge. I have long wanted to hunt bear but have always been hesitant because of not knowing what I’m getting myself into, no good references, etc, etc. I took a chance with Gil at Black Bear Lodge. Gil seem to know what he was talking about in regards to bear. He didn’t sugar coat anything and he didn’t promise anything he couldn’t deliver. He spoke highly of his operation and I took a chance.

I wasn’t going alone to New Brunswick. I was heading up there with a couple other guys to film one of our TV shows for Own the Zone TV. From start to finish it was an awesome experience. Gil, the owner knows his stuff. He made sure we were full at breakfast, supper, and dinner. All our bait sites were active and the laughs carried on from the time we met till the time we got drop off back at the airport. I would like to tell you how many bears went down, why one guy was keeping a little stuffed bear in his Hunter Safety System pocket, but I can’t. Tune in each week on Own the Zone TV to find out what really went down in New Brunswick at Black Bear Lodge. And in the meantime if you’re looking to book a bear hunt for 2009 give Gil a call and tell him Paul from Own the Zone TV sent ya.
